About Nanak Singh
He began as a poet. Khooni Vaisakhi, his long poem on the Jallianwala Bagh massacre of 1919, was banned by the British government. The novels came after: social reform written as stories that ordinary readers could not put down, at a time when the Punjabi novel barely existed.
Where to start
Pavittar Paapi is the one to open first. It is short, it moves quickly, and nothing in it needs a dictionary. Ik Mian Do Talwaran, on the Ghadar movement and Kartar Singh Sarabha, is the one to read when you want history and story in the same book.
