About Amrita Pritam

Born in Gujranwala, she crossed to India at Partition and spent most of her life in Delhi. She wrote poetry, novels, short stories and memoir, in Punjabi and in Hindi. The Sahitya Akademi Award came for the poetry collection Sunehade; the Jnanpith, India's highest literary award, came for Kagaz Te Canvas.
