About Khushwant Singh
Novelist, historian, editor and columnist. Train to Pakistan, published in 1956, is set in a border village in the summer of Partition. A History of the Sikhs remains the general history most often recommended. He returned his Padma Bhushan in 1984 in protest at the army action at the Golden Temple.
